2017 NOEW Big Idea Challenge Vote Tracker - Google Drive

1 2017 NOEW Big Idea Challenge Vote Tracker
2
3 Explanation
4 This tracker was designed to highlight activities and progress of the various companies in the NOEW Big Idea Challenge. Hypothetically, there should be strong correlation between the votes attracted & each Company's social media presence.
5 The data was scraped from the Poll on intervals using simple scripts and written to a CSV file for further analysis. There is a link to the GitHub repo containing the script I wrote.

7 In business, the devil is in the details and details were plenty here! The worksheet tabs below display the following:
8 All Samples is a recording of the data from every screen scrape.
9 4hr Period The samples filtered across several Periods so that both broad and specific trends can be exposed.
10 60Min Period
11 30Min Period
12 15Min Period
13 CompanyLinks Based on NOEW website and quick google searches. Not particularly thorough, but a start to correlate vote surges with social activities.
The ranks released by NOLA.com's live feed are posted here.

15 Each Section explained...
16 RAW DATA The raw samples taken using the scraping script. Useful only to those who wish to perform their own calculations.
17 Votes Parsed from RAW DATA. The votes attributed to each Company within the Sample
18 Votes Increase A calculation of the increase of votes for a company since the previous sample (located immediately above in Votes). Color exposes the least voting active company within a Sample.
19 % Increase within Sample A calculation of the share of the votes attained within the Increase since the last sample. This is useful for exposing the more active vote affiliations regardless of how much voting activity is within a sample. Color exposes the highest value within a Sample.
20 Rank Ordering the Companies from most (1) to least (20) number of votes within a Sample. Coloring exposes the ranks distance from 10 (the lowest rank to move to the next round)
21 Rank Change A calculation showing the gain or loss of a Rank. Where %Increase exposes activities that gain market share, Rank Change exposes when those activities "make a difference" in the Competition for 2 or more competitors. As time progresses, Rank change activity should be less volatile.
22
23 Within Each Section, across the top are 2 rows of information repeating. This calculation is based on the latest sample and is placed in the frozen layout area of the sheet for easy reference.
24 Last Sample Sprd The vote distribution gap. It exposes the vote separation among Competitors. The competitors below Rank 10 are identified with negative numbers.
25 Last Sample Rank A simple copy of each Company's Rank within the last sample.
26
27 Within Each Section, in Columns A & B, are calculations used for grouping and daylight.
28 Hour Used to identify Specific hours within a 24 hour period. The coloring is used to generally identify the closeness to noon (12) or night (00) while cross-referencing other Sections.
29 Minute Used to filter All Samples into the various Period sheets.
